Singers & Players were the first mutation of a loose reggae collective of 15 to 20 vocalists, musicians & DJ's to form the core of Adrian Sherwood’s On-U Sound label.
A colourful bunch of Punks and Rasta's, Rebels, Rockers, Instrumentalists and Experimentalists. All of them could also be members of other groups like Dub Syndicate, Creation Rebel, African Headcharge , New Age Steppers etc.
Memorable Singers & Players were Prince Far I, Bim Sherman and Mikey Dread, Style Scott, Bruce Smith, Jah Woosh, Ari-Up & Congo Ashanti Roy.
There was never any fixed line up to the group, and many different artists featured on each track and each album.
They recorded five albums between 1981 and 1988 and were regarded as a dub supergroup.
